Parking: There is very limited parking on our lot, but if a space is available you are welcome to it! There is metered parking on G Street and Mass Ave. Paid parking is available at Union Station (5 blocks from us) and at the Walmart on H Street (2 blocks from us).
Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older to serve. Persons under the age of 12 are ineligible for entry into the Mission. Assignments will be age appropriate, and those under 18 must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.
**Groups of youth volunteers (18 and under) must be supervised by at least one adult per every four youth, and at least 2 adults per group.
Individual/small-group volunteer activities at the Men’s Shelter include:
- Lunch Service (11:30am-1:30pm, M-Sa)—up to four volunteers help prep and serve Mission lunch guests in our kitchen and dining hall. [Ages 18+ welcome. No minor age volunteers (12-17 years old)] No personal items. (There is no locker.) The dress code is casual, but appropriate.
- Dinner Service (4:00pm-6:00pm, M-Sa) – up to four volunteers help prep and serve Mission dinner guests in our kitchen and dining hall. [Ages 18+ welcome. No minor age volunteers (12-17 years old ] No personal items. (There is no locker.) The dress code is casual, but appropriate.
- Mission Muffins (6:00pm-8:00pm, M) – up to four volunteers help with packaging and labeling in our MM kitchen. [Ages 18+ welcome. No minor age volunteers (12-17 years old] No personal items. (There is no locker.) The dress code is casual, but appropriate.
** Men's Shelter large groups (8 minimum-18 maximum # of volunteers) please contact our volunteer coordinator Marc OBrien at mobrien@missiondc.org. Large group volunteer opportunities can be customized and include:
- Shelter Upkeep (9:30am-11:30am, M-Sa) – Upkeep in our overnight guest facilities on the 2nd Fl., which includes sorting sheets, making beds, folding towels, and sheets, disinfecting, sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming. Ages 12+ welcome (minor age volunteers, ages 12-17 years old, must be accompanied by an adult guardian). No personal items. (There is no locker.) Dress code is casual, but appropriate.
